Missionary outreaches have myriad purposes; the purpose of the missionary outreach the Lord has birthed in my heart
is to minister to the children of the world who live and die impoverished in spirit, soul, and body, working with native
ministers, sharing the Love of our Father God with them and their families who may never have another opportunity to
taste and see that the Lord is good.
"What could I possibly have to offer?" was my initial reaction to the prompting in my heart
to go overseas. My only comfort at first was that I was not the first to stand in that place of self-doubt: Moses has stood
there; Gideon, Esther, Peter and so many others have stood before the face of our Almighty God asking the seemingly impossible
of them. And then, hahahahahahahhaahh! the joy of understanding that all things are truly possible with God alone, that
He had separated each of us unto Himself before we were born, and that He had anointed each of us for the appointments He
had for us in this life from before the foundation of the world!
And so, just what do I bring into the missionary outreach? More than anything else, I believe
that my presence brings such encouragement to the native ministers who labor tirelessly with opposition and persecution from
local governments that do not welcome the Presence of Jesus Christ. There is strengthening and uplifting, renewal of purpose
and direction, and enormous learning from each other as we grow together in the work of God. There is something indescribable
about the wondrous joining together of brothers and sisters in Christ when the miles in-between are removed and the world
is suddenly not so huge. And, children are children, no matter what country or culture; children are the most valuable and precious strength of any society.
Isaiah 61 declares: The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD
hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to
the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the
day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; to appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty
for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees
of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
It is this passage of scripture that Jesus quoted when he
began His public ministry; it is this passage of scripture that fuels His parting words to all believers: Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature. And so I go in the Name of the Lord; no two outreaches have been the same. In Ghana, we held teaching seminars in
which I shared what I have learned about children's ministry with the local leaders. There were afternoon children's
programs where thousands of children came to hear the gospel, sing silly songs, play games, and receive food for a day. There
were visits to villages where schools, vocational centers, and housing were being constructed as the native ministers shared
the love of God with the local tribal leaders. Truly the Spirit of God is moving in Ghana!
In India, where it is illegal to preach the
Gospel, the element of discovery lent an adventurous tone to ministry. Deportation would have been the worst of what would
have happened to me; severe persecution and oppression would have been the result for my hosts. But I have spied out the land
and brought back my report: the harvest is ripe, the people are ready to receive the Word
of God that will set them free, and I shall go back to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. For the youth of Village of Faith Church,
there are untold adventures in missionary outreach. Panama, Peru, India, Africa, Nicaragua….the world is in their hands,
as is the Spirit of God.
I pray
you enjoy the photos essays on this site and that you will seek the Lord as to what He would have you do to help. Trust
me, "What can I possibly do?" is exactly what the Father is waiting for you to ask Him.
